For our new venue on Cockatoo Island it is necessary, of course, to have new artwork to represent it. Therefore, the very talented and award winning textile artist and designer Mary Ratcliffe was once again commissioned by us to give her take on what the Sydney Harbour Concours d’Elegance will bring next March – for a sneak preview of how the fabulous Turbine Shop might look simply click scan07547 . Mary has previously exhibited her work in London, Milan, and New York, and been commissioned by Mary Quant, Biba and many others. Mary herself can be seen in this marvellous portrait below at the National Portrait Gallery in London by fellow artist Shona Chew. Chew met Mary at a Textile Fair where she gave a talk on her work. Chew asked if she would sit for a portrait with some of her textile creations. Chew says: ‘I was keen to paint the vibrant mix of colours, shapes and lines created by the figure in the foreground and the more vertical patterns in the background.
