The standard for competing for the Grand Prix d’Honneur for the Best in Show at the Sydney Harbour Concours is very high indeed. The previous winners of this honour have been the amazing 1962 Aston Martin DB4 Vantage in 2019, the stunning blue 1970 Lamborghini Miura S in 2020, the incredible 1936 Delage D6-70 Special by Figoni et Falaschi in 2021, and this year the wonderful 1923 Vauxhall Tourer 30/98 #OE1078 with Wensom boat-tail body. All of these motor cars had amazing stories, history, and provenance, and all are very rare and desirable and in wonderful condition. Which leads me to wonder which car will be successful in 2023 under the watchful eye of Chief Judge Filip Bourgoo from Belgium, when we return to the superb Swifts mansion in Darling Point on 2 – 4 March. This far out is a matter for conjecture of course, but there are already four amazing early Italian entries – a stylish Lancia coupé, a Maserati with a very famous and fashionable first owner, a Zagato coach-built Alfa Romeo, and an incredibly rare Ferrari….But in the meantime let’s take another look at those that have been successful so far, and if you think you have an automobile which could make the running for 2023 then please do get in touch.
