Hot on the heels of our announcement of the continued patronage of RIAR, we are very pleased to announce that once again the Sydney Harbour Concours d’Elegance will operate under the patronage of ASI – the Automotoclub Storico Italiano.
The Automotoclub Storico Italiano was founded on September 25, 1966 in Bardolino, in the province of Verona, from the merger of the Veteran Car Club d’Italia, based in Turin, and FIAME, based in Milan, placing its registered office at the National Automobile Museum in Turin from the outset.
Today, the Automotoclub Storico Italiano institutionally represents Italian historic motoring before all competent national and international bodies . Members of the Federal Body include non-commercial and non-profit associations with similar goals to those of the ASI, as well as the make and model registries .
By its statute, the ASI supports and protects the general interests of Italian classic motor vehicles, highlighting their cultural, historical, and social importance. It promotes the preservation and recovery of any motor vehicle over twenty years old (cars, motorcycles, mopeds, military vehicles, agricultural and industrial machinery, commercial vehicles, boats, and airplanes), enhancing their cultural significance, which stems from the fact that these vehicles were active and irreplaceable protagonists of twentieth-century history, expressing its technical, cultural, and social evolution.
ASI organizes and sponsors cultural events featuring historic vehicles: re-enactments, elegance contests, tourist rallies, exhibitions, and conferences that have the important function of reviving historic vehicles and raising public awareness of the beauty and prestige of the national motoring heritage.
Furthermore, ASI engages in constant dialogue with institutions to ensure that these cultural assets are not abandoned, but that their recovery and conservation are encouraged and their use and circulation are permitted.
Finally, ASI is part of FIVA (Federation Internationale Vehicules Anciens which also recognises the Sydney Harbour Concours), the organization that deals with the international protection of historic motoring, and is the national association of reference in Italy.
